Description

What is ViroCydin?

An effective immune response is needed to clear the viral load during a viral infection. Inflammation as a result of the innate immune response can increase the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) to a level where the natural antioxidant system of the body cannot cope anymore. The levels of the body’s antioxidants and relevant enzymes are depleted allowing pathogenic cell damage and increased oxidative stress. Increased oxidative stress may stimulate increased viral replication, increased inflammation and decreased immune response.

ViroCydin might have the characteristics to counteract these negative traits as it contains a number of flavonoids and other compounds reported to have antiviral properties, allowing it to neutralise different ROS molecules and damaged sites at the same time. Antioxidants present in ViroCydin include procyanidin, quercetin, butin, catechin, myricetin and fisetin. Additional ingredients in ViroCydin include: proline-rich peptides, Artemisia annua and Zinc.

Dosage:

Children 6-10 years: 1 capsule at bedtime

Children 10-16 years: 2 capsules at bedtime.

Adults:  maintenance or preventative dosage:

2 capsules at bedtime, or if it affects the blood pressure, take one cap 2x per day

ViroCydin & Covid

Positive Covid-19 Test Treatment

  • Take 2 caps ViroCydin, 3x day, Lower the dosage as you start feeling better after 5 to 7 days
  • Take Vit-C 500mg 4-6 times per day.
  • Take Nutramed Vit-D (5000IU) one to two caps per day.
  • Cellfood to improve your oxygen uptake.

Positive patients presenting severe symptoms should consult with a doctor. If not admitted to hospital, continue with ViroCydin, Vit-C and Vit-D treatment plan. Monitor your blood pressure regularly, stay in bed and isolate.  High risk patients should always consult a doctor first or go to hospital.

ViroCydin & Covid

The disease is highly infective and is spread through person to person contact by respiratory droplets and contact with contaminated surfaces. Men are more susceptible to the virus than women, have more severe disease symptoms and higher mortality. Patients with co-morbidities such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and malignancies are at very high risk to contract the virus with severe illness as well as death as a result (Zhang et al., 2020).

In general, the corona virus consists of four different structural proteins: spike (S) protein, envelope (E) protein, membrane (M) protein and nucleocapsid (N) protein. Human cells are invaded by the virus following the binding of the virus spike protein to the Angiotensin Converting Enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor found on the surface of human cells (Jena et al., 2021). Viral genome material, in the form of positive sense RNA, is released into the host cell which after protein replication is followed by virus assembly and the release of new virions through exocytosis from the host cell (Muchtaridi et al., 2020).

Recently, several studies suggested that natural polyphenolic compounds such as catechins and curcumin (Jena et al., 2021) and flavonoids could potentially be used as treatments for SARS-CoV-2 (Muchtaridi et al., 2020), which opens a new area for research on compounds which may be able to act on these receptors on the surface of human cells. A new approach to the prevention and treatment of SARS-CoV-2 is very much needed as there are very few proven successful treatments other than vaccination available at present.

Dr Stefan Schoeman from Nutramed (Pty) Ltd developed a natural product, ViroCydin, formulated to counteract cellular oxidative stress. ViroCydin is a complementary medicine which acts as a nutraceutical and has been used in practice to treat Covid-19 patients with positive symptom alleviating outcomes. It is possible that this nutraceutical has the potential to prevent and treat Covid-19 as it contains various flavonoids which act as antioxidants and additional ingredients that can modify the immune response. ViroCydin is currently in the process of 5 clinical Invitro studies at a renowned University in South Africa. The active ingredients; plant sterols, strolins and flavonoids have been tested in 2002 on HIV patients; decreasing the viral load dramatically in a short period of time.

There is proposed in vitro antiviral research in process on this product, which potentiates the research question of whether ViroCydin can bind to ACE2 receptors thereby preventing viral entry to cells or alternatively, whether it can counteract the high production of ROS during viral infection.

Due to the lack of any effective small molecule treatments for patients with Covid-19, as well as possible prophylactic characteristics, ViroCydin research may contribute in a very positive manner to this problem, not only nationally, but also internationally.

Side Effects & Information

Side effects:

It has been reported in some patients, that ViroCydin might lower their blood pressure. It is mostly seen in people that already suffer from low blood pressure. It is therefore advisable to take ViroCydin at bedtime and start with a lower dosage. Little effect was seen on patients that are on hypertension treatment. It is always advisable to measure your blood pressure on a regular basis.

Pregnant woman, lactating mothers and children.

ViroCydin has not been tested on pregnant or lactating mothers, but, the different components in Virocydin have been used for decades with no side effect on pregnant woman, lactating woman and children. Antioxidants, Artemisia and Zinc have been used in African countries for decades to treat diseases like Malaria and TB on pregnant woman.

It is also safe to use on Porfirian patients. It advisable to use ViroCydin on children older than 6 years.
